Women, Race and Class
"Women, Race and Class, by Angela Davis, is a fundamental work for understanding the nuances of oppression. Starting the book by discussing slavery and its effects, and the way in which black women were dehumanized, gives us an idea of the impossibility of thinking about a national project that disregards the centrality of the racial issue, since slave societies were founded on racism. Furthermore, the author shows the need for oppression to not be hierarchized, that is, how much it is necessary to consider the intersection of race, class and gender to enable a new model of society. Davis presents the debate on penal abolitionism as essential for confronting institutional racism."

Brazilian Indigenous Tales
"In the introduction to the book Contos indígenas brasileiros [Brazilian Indigenous Tales], published in 2004, the author, Daniel Munduruku, stated: “Brazil is a country of cultural and linguistic diversity. Here in our lands, more than 250 different peoples live together, speaking 180 languages and dialects, living in all the states of this immense country. There are more than 750 thousand people, according to the latest data from the IBGE [Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics], who seek to keep the flames of their tradition alive and maintain balance in their own lives.” The eight stories selected by the author, based on linguistic criteria, are intended to portray, through their myths – the theft of fire, the origin of tobacco, after the flood, among others – the journey of some of our indigenous peoples from the north to the south of the country – Guarani, Karajá, Munduruku, Tukano, among others. Reading these stories gives children a rich vision of our cultural heritage."
